Polyurethane is one of the six major synthetic materials in the world, among which polyurethane elastomer has been widely used in metallurgy, drilling, shoemaking and chemical fiber machinery due to its unique properties. However, the application of polyurethane in some special fields is limited because of its poor heat resistance and high endogenous heat. Foreign countries have done a lot of work in its development, and there are many commercialized products. In contrast, domestic development is relatively backward, almost blank, and a large number of polyurethane products with special properties still need to be imported every year.
Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has accumulated a lot of experience in the research and development of polyurethane for many years. By introducing heat-resistant organic heterocyclic compounds into the molecular chain structure of polyurethane, improving the degree of microphase separation and adding inorganic fillers (whiskers, fibers, nanomaterials), the researchers of this institute have successfully developed special polyurethane products with enhanced functionality. Compared with ordinary polyurethane elastomers, these special polyurethane products have outstanding properties such as high hardness, high strength, heat resistance and solvent resistance to meet the requirements of special applications while maintaining their original excellent comprehensive properties.
For example, the temperature resistance of special polyurethane elastomer has been improved, and the use temperature has been raised from 80 C to 130 C. At present, the polyurethane elastomer has been successfully applied to drill pipe anti-wear sleeve, high-pressure sealing ring, tightening ring, speed-increasing wheel and friction disc of textile machinery in oil field drilling, filling the gap in China.
