July 5, 2017 - Irgastab < PUR 70 antioxidant developed by BASF won the European Polyurethane Foam Innovation Award. The European Association of Polyurethane Soft Foam Manufacturers (EUROPUR) and the European Association of Automotive Polyurethane Molding Parts Manufacturers (EURO-MOULDERS) will be held in Milan, Italy, in 2017. The award is jointly awarded by EUROPUR and the Journal Urethanes Technology International.

Therefore, the award shows that the global customers have fully affirmed BASF's contribution in promoting the development of polyurethane technology and improving product sustainability.

The Innovation Award recognizes BASF's efforts in the development and commercialization of Irgastab PUR 70, a polyurethane foaming anti-scorching additive. This innovative additive can prevent the thermal oxidation degradation of polyols and polyurethane foams in the foaming process, while significantly reducing the emission performance.

The foam produced by Irgastab PUR 70 can be used in various automotive interior accessories such as fabric decorative covers and foam molded seats, while helping original equipment manufacturers and distributors at all levels to achieve increasingly stringent vehicle emission and odour requirements.

This includes not only the more stringent European standard VDA 278 10/11, i.e. the German Automobile Industry Association's test standard for thermal desorption analysis of organic volatiles from non-metallic materials in automobiles, but also China's Guidelines for Assessing Air Quality in Passenger Vehicles (GB/T 27630-2018). The latter imposes stricter restrictions on eight harmful substances, including aldehydes, requiring all new cars to meet these requirements by 2018.

Irgastab < PUR 70 antioxidant uses thermal stabilizers without amine and aromatic solvents, which can effectively stabilize free radicals, thus greatly reducing volatile organic compounds (VOC), atomization (FOG) and aldehydes, and improving air quality.

In addition, Irgastab PUR 70 will hardly change color in the process of foam storage and final use, so it is also suitable for industries with high demand for foam cleanliness.
